VoIP Facts

VoIP- how does it work?

To put it simply, VoIP or Voice over Internet Protocol,  provides a method for taking analog audio signals like the kind you hear when you talk on the phone, and turns them into digital data that can be transmitted over the Internet.

How is this useful?

VoIP can turn a standard Internet connection into a way to place free or cheaper phone calls.  There are many VoIP providers online selling packages, however the major telecommunication providers are also beginning to developing VoIP call plans as they know it will change the way the world communicates.

How can I make a VoIP call?

There is a misconception that you need to be in front of your PC/laptop and dial someone else sitting at their PC/laptop.  Well, you can make a call from computer to computer, which is a free call, but we know that is simply not practical for businesses and communicating with your customers.  Hence, that is where an IP compatible phone system like the Panasonic or Avaya systems come into play.

The IP phone systems enable you to have access to analog call functionality with your traditional landline for example incoming calls only, whilst at the same time we can set up your system for outgoing calls to use VoIP technology taking advantage of VoIP.  So yes, you can still pick up a handset and dial someone as you normally would, it's just the back-end of the phone system is set up differently. And of course, your business will reap the benefits of access to far cheaper calls than any traditional telecommunication provider has been able to provide in the past.

Why would I want to switch to VoIP?

The obvious benefits are the cost savings and the ability to access flat rates for national, mobile and local calls.  Additionally, when you upgrade to a VoIP compatible telephone system your business can access call management software, reporting functionality and more to help you manage your business’s communications process better.
